Sephora Favorites: Give Me Some New Lip Kit

Damn it’s been a long time since my last blog post! I guess we can say I needed time to gear up for 2018? Anyway, here’s a quick overview with swatches on Sephora’s latest Favorites kit!

The packaging is so cute – the cashier at Sephora was thrown off for a second and thought I brought her Timbits haha! For my non-Canadians, click here for the mini donuts we have at Tim Hortons known as Timbits. They’re delicious.

Mini reviews/first impressions and images of the products are below. Swatches are at the end of this post.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Matte Lipstick – Candy Venom (mini)

This is actually a 1 g mini version of the product. The full size in comparison is 1.7 g.

This lipstick was a big part of why I wanted the whole box! Like others, I wish the shade they included was something more natural but I am absolutely blown away by this lipstick! It’s very creamy and comfortable on the lips despite having a matte finish. The colour I find is extremely flattering on my skin tone, and it lasts quite a while even after eating. It tints your lips slightly so you don’t have to touch up that much throughout the day. The only complaint I have is like everyone else’s – it’s a very narrow product so it’s hard to apply. You’d think that a thinner tube would make it easier but actually I found it more difficult to get into my cupid’s bow and outline my lips with precision. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic product and I definitely want to buy more shades!

Smashbox Always On Metallic Liquid Lipstick – XO, Vlada (full size)

Left: Smashbox. Right: Huda Beauty.

I think Smashbox makes one of the best liquid lipstick formulas on the market! They’re easy to apply, very pigmented, last for hours, and come in a bunch of shades. I didn’t even know they made metallics until I got this box and I’m pleased to say this one is just as good as their matte formula! Smashbox has a very unique doe-foot applicator with a hole in it so you always have enough product in one swipe – no need to dip back in the tube.

This metallic shade is a beautiful copper brown and looks stunning! It doesn’t exaggerate your lip lines too much like other metallic formulas do, even when you pout. I’m not sure when I would wear this since I work in an office but I will definitely find a way haha.

Huda Beauty Lip Strobe – Snobby (mini)

As you can see from the previous animated swatch, this lip topper is extremely reflective and will look beautiful alone, or layered over a product. This is my first time trying something from Huda Beauty and I really like it! The formula is thick and slightly sticky, but not uncomfortable at all. I swiped this all over my lips and there was no unpleasant feeling sticking them together.

I think this is a great product to put in the middle of the lips, especially on top of a gloss, to make them look bigger.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Crayon – Night Mauves (full size)

I’m not sure how I feel about this product because as you can see from the first image, it totally fell apart when I opened it! Thankfully I put the stick back in the tube and it works fine without falling out again, but still I’m not impressed. As for the actual product itself, it’s interesting because it’s a twist-up lip crayon but feels just like a lipstick. It’s very creamy, has good pigment and feels comfortable on the lips. This mauve shade is slightly metallic so I’m not sure how people would feel about that.

This product is very similar to the NARS lip crayon but the MJ one I would say is thicker.

treStiQue Mini Plumping Lip Balm – Barbados Berry (6 g)

This is apparently infused with Shea butter and marine collagen to plump lips, making them look up to 32% fuller?? I didn’t see much of a plumping effect (my lips aren’t small though) but this is definitely a comfortable tinted balm. The packaging is super cute and is designed to be a convenient size to carry around. Ironically I disagree because just like the eos lip balms, you can’t put this into a clutch or your pocket easily! Then again I always have a bag or purse with me so it’s not a big problem.

Also I will say that the brand’s use of models is very deceiving because it’s not nearly as pigmented as their video and images make it seem. My swatch below is very light, and that’s with multiple layers going back and forth.

My final verdict is that this is an amazing value and you should get your hands on it as soon as you can! It’s a fantastic way to try out new lip products and you get 2 full size + minis for $33 CAD. What is there to lose? Most of the shades are neutral and wearable, and would probably look good on almost anyone.

Thanks for reading! More posts coming soon I promise.
