I don’t always have time to sit down with a brush/sponge and blend in foundation in the morning. That, and sun protection, are why I love using BB cushions. They’re cute, easy to use and portable since the cushion puff is included. Just like all products though, there are hits and misses. My collection isn’t big but there are some good/bad products here I’d like to review. Every cushion here is SPF 50+/PA+++ unless otherwise stated.
Missha M Magic Cushion – #23 ★★☆☆☆
I just talked about this in my last post and said how I didn’t like it. A lot of people like this but honestly it didn’t work for my skin. I’ve tried it multiple times (I actually used one up so I’m on my refill) and it has never worn well on my face. I’ve tried different primers and powders but this always breaks up on my skin halfway through the day. There are many other cushions that work better, including the ones in this post, so I’ll be tossing this.
Pokemon x Cathy Doll AA Matte Powder Cushion Oil Control – #24 Medium Beige
I picked this up when I was in Thailand (I actually think it’s exclusive to the country) because well, I had to! It’s Pokemon! The cushion is much smaller than your average cushion though – in size dimensions and the amount of product. There’s only 0.21oz in here so the $10 CAD price tag doesn’t seem that cheap anymore. This is a completely matte cushion that dries into a powder on the skin. I’m giving it 3 stars because it honestly did keep my face matte, but it was too matte. Halfway through the day I realized that although I didn’t get shiny at all (which almost never happens, especially in Bangkok with 30+ degree weather??), this product dried out my face so much that the center of my face looked cakey. I got dry patches that were never noticeable before, so I didn’t wear this again. Still going to keep this in my collection though because the packaging is so adorable!
Etude House AC Clean Up Mild BB Cushion – Honey Beige ★★★★★
THIS CUSHION IS AMAZING! I’ve never had any super positive experiences with BB cushions so I almost gave up on them completely, but this one made its way around the YouTube community so I ordered it online at Yesstyle. I’m super impressed because I’ve finally found a cushion that lasts all day and looks great! It blends into the skin easily and has a semi-matte to matte finish. I still use primer + powder because that’s just what I do but even so this cushion has held up longer than any other that I’ve tried. It looks great on the skin and by the end of the day, still has good coverage and doesn’t break up much at all in areas like my nose and mouth. I’ll definitely continue to buy this as my go-to BB cushion, especially because it’s so affordable. This thing only cost me $16 CAD!
Etude House Real Powder Cushion – Honey Beige ★★★☆☆
I bought this in Hong Kong because the idea of a “powder cushion” intrigued me. How can a liquid turn into powder in a cushion form? To be honest I’m still not sure how this works but it really does do what it says. When you open it, the sponge is clearly soaked in a liquid but once you pat the product into the skin, it quickly transforms into a powdery finish. This is great because it apparently cuts the powdering step in your routine, but also raises some issues: 1) You have to work the product in quickly because it dries pretty fast, 2) You therefore can’t build it up with multiple layers because the powder will bunch up together, and 3) You can’t keep this product on your shelf for long after it’s opened because it will dry out quickly. Also, this product didn’t last long on my skin or keep me matte for long – halfway through the day as usual it began to fade in my nose and mouth area. I couldn’t even touch it up much because of its transformative nature, and I had to blot as often as I normally do. Considering the $35 price I paid for this, it didn’t perform well.
APRILSKIN Magic Snow Cushion – #23 ★★★★☆
This is probably one of the most talked about cushions on Earth, so I had to try it. I got it in Hong Kong on sale for about $25 CAD, a great deal it seems! This is more on the high-end side of BB cushions, and definitely feels like it in the packaging and on the face. The cushion itself is pretty high-tech because when you first open it, the cushion is actually totally white and bare. Only when you press the pad onto the cushion does the product start to seep through (you can still see some of the edges are white). This is great for preventing the cushion from drying out too quickly. As for coverage, I would say it’s medium-full and buildable, and has a dewy finish. Since it doesn’t dry matte, I would definitely use a primer and set it with powder. I really like this cushion because it looks great and natural on the skin. It also has a perfume scent which I like! It lasts longer than most BB cushions I’ve tried, but not as long as my foundation so I knocked off a star. The Etude House AC clean up definitely lasts longer though.
And that’s it! Hopefully I’ll have some more cushions to review soon but until then, I hope you found some good recommendations 🙂
