This past Halloween weekend, I flew to SoCal to attend a music festival (THE BEST WEEKEND OF MY LIFE… I may just write a full post on it) and do some touristy stuff. Of course, one of the most exciting parts of my trip was having the chance to shop for beauty south of the border. Most of these products aren’t available in Canadian stores so I had to pick them up!
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer – Light Medium
I bought this a few months ago on the Tarte website during a sale but got a shade that was too light for me 😦 I’ve been hoping to get my hands on the right one for a while now and I’m glad I did! I’ve only used this a couple of times so far but I have to say it lives up to the hype. It’s thick but not cakey, doesn’t crease, easy to blend, has a large easy to use applicator, and has a light pleasant smell. I bought 2 of them actually because I was paranoid I’d run out and have to struggle to order one again. In case you didn’t know, this is an Ulta exclusive. Comparing this to my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, I’d say the Tarte has more coverage.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit – Light/Medium
I bought this because it was on sale for $20 USD! I know Sephora had this on sale recently too but it sold out and I lost my chance, so I picked this up at Ulta when I was in line at checkout. It was the last powder contour kit left (the rest were all cream) so I have no regrets! There are 3 highlights (2 matte, 1 shimmer) and 3 contour shades. There’s a great mix of warm/neutral/cool tones, and the powders are easy to blend. Excited to use this!
Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator – Diamond Dust
This is an absolutely gorgeous highlighter! It doesn’t show on camera but it’s an iridescent (almost duochrome) highlighter that is very pigmented. It has a frosty white base with a blinding pink/purple shimmer that looks amazing on the skin! It’s easy to blend and isn’t chalky, and looks very flattering dusted over my cheekbones and nose bridge. I should have gotten more shades but it was pretty expensive 😦 this little thing cost me $26 USD so I picked one shade that I didn’t already own in some way. Laura Geller isn’t available in Canada so this was a great purchase!
EcoTools Total Perfecting Blender
This is one of the few cosmetic sponges on the market that apparently works as well as a beauty blender. At $28 a pop, those pink little sponges can add up over time so I’ve watched a lot of videos on dupes, and this is the only one missing from my collection! It comes with a little base/stand and has different contours for blending powder. The flat side and other cuts in this bouncy sponge make it easy to blend products and use in general. I need to test it a bit more but so far I like it! In Canada, you can only find this online.
Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo – Trial Holiday Set
This is a brand of dry shampoo that the internet raves about which is yet again – you guessed it – not sold in Canadian stores. This mini set contains different versions that are great for travel so I picked it up. I’ve tried only the Warm Sugar one so far and I really like the formula! The sprayer is not too aggressive and there is no white cast at all. It doesn’t make my hair sticky and adds volume while making my hair cleaner.
Before I dive into what I bought at Sephora, I wanted to let everyone know that Sephora in the US sells Neogen, Son + Park, Glow Recipe, and more brands we don’t have yet in Canada. Not only are they available online, but there’s a huge K-Beauty display on the wall in the skincare section dedicated to these brands. I wanted to buy some of their products to bring back but 1) I’m not made of money, and 2) They were too large in mL for my carry-on. Waiting for the day I can pick up the Neogen peel pads and Son + Park beauty water from Sephora here!
Dr. Jart+ Tiger Grass Cicapair Collection Set
This holiday gift set contains a sample size of every product from Dr. Jart’s Cicapair line! The jar on the right, the Color Correcting Treatment, isn’t available in Canada yet so I wanted to pick up this whole set and try it all out! The Cicapair line uses an ingredient called madecassoside which is great for naturally calming redness and sensitivity in the skin. The line is formulated to hydrate and treat skin suffering from these symptoms. I have redness in the center of my face that I’d like to hide without heavy foundation, so I’m excited to try the redness corrector. The other products you’re seeing are the nightly re:pair mask (overnight face mask), re:pair serum, and cream.
500 Point Reward: AmorePacific Moisture Bound Set
I’ve been stacking up points to wait for a good enough reward but so far nothing has been worth it. At Sephora in Galleria (Glendale, CA) this was their last reward box for 500 points so I absolutely took it. These are products from their Moisture Bound line, focusing on locking in hydration. Instead of using water as a first ingredient, which isn’t worth the money, they use a form of tree sap instead! I already have 50ml of the spray from another box set I purchased so these should be good, too. It comes with samples of the CC Cushion (pink undertone so it probably won’t match me), foaming cleanser, enzyme peel (chemical exfoliator), and rejuvenating creme (moisturizer).
Wet n Wild Color Icon Ombre Blush – 315B Mai Tai Buy You A Drink
I was hoping to find their Unicorn collection at Target but maybe they sold out? Mainly I wanted to buy the purple highlighter but all I found that’s new to me as a Canadian was this blush. This is definitely more of a highlighter than a blush. You can see in the photo that it’s not very pigmented but is very shimmery. Still, it looks really pretty so I’m glad I picked it up. It comes in other shades but this one was missing quite a few on the shelf so I assume it’s popular for a reason!
Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes – Coconut
These are odor neutralizing wipes with coconut milk and essential oils. Pacifica has these in different scents but I picked this one because I love coconut! Pacifica is a 100% vegan and cruelty-free brand popular in the US but not sold in Canada. They make one of my all-time favourite lotions: the Indian Coconut Nectar Body Lotion. It smells absolutely divine and feels very hydrating on the skin. Unfortunately, all of their sizes were over 100ml so I couldn’t bring it back with me to Canada 😦 Among all of their products, these underarm wipes caught my eye the most. I’ve used one so far and it absolutely works! Not only did I not smell like sweat, but the whole car smelled like a tropical vacation. A+ from me!
